Instructional Text
Wow! What a week we’ve had in Literacy.
We’ve been studying Instructional Text and have viewed a great website called Wikihow.
This sight allows you both to make a request and respond to a request about how to make/do something.
We decided to respond to a real request so that we were writing for a real purpose. We were intrigued with the request ‘How to make a Mighty Mega Sandwich’ and decided to take the challenge!
As a class we decided a ‘Mighty Mega Sandwich’ was a huge, whopper of a sandwich and decided to call it ‘The Whopperdopperdooby Sandwich! Our teacher demonstrated her interpretation of a whopperdopperdooby and made it, then for the next 3 days it was our turn!

Hello everybody!
This week in literacy we have been studying Instructional Text.
We decided to make it more relevant by writing for a real purpose. As our Yr3’s are learning how to become brilliant bloggers we thought it would be a great idea to write instructions for them. So far we have produced a flow chart with brief notes. We used smart-notebook but could have used smartideas or Gliffy to create our flow chart. We are going to attempt to upload this flowchart now, but if it isn’t below this writing as you are reading it we have been unsuccessful!
Over the next two weeks we are looking at how to write effective instructions. In the first week we will be writing instructions about how to add useful comments to blogs. The year 3’s in our school will be our audience and we are also going to be writing for some children in classes in Sydney, Australia.
It’s Miss Pick’s Yr6 class here jumping on the blog-wagon! We’re really excited to be blogging and can’t wait to hear from you - whoever you are! We’re absolutely loving being in Yr6 (despite having SATs!) and becoming a blogger has only made it better!
Once we become brilliant bloggers we hope to share with you lots of the interesting activities we get up to and hope to receive comments from all over the world.
So here’s our very first blog entry - I hope we’ve done it right!
Happy blogging from all in Miss Pick’s class!
